[Art in this journal is consider as artistic art art. Not any visual image made by anyone. But typing that every time over and over again was a bit to much.]

So yes,
recently there has been some things going down,
surrounding art and art theft.

Now,
the art that this is all about,
we have all decided isn't art,
because it is stolen.

But..looking at it again.
Closer and squinting at it.

I am quite sure it wasn't art in the first place.
All i learned about art in my years in school,
the feeling the real artistic twisted teacher gave me...
it isn't there.

It is simply a pretty picture.
Made with some digital programs,
that everyone.. putting in enough effort can learn to make.

That is why pretty, often isn't called art.
Because, we all know the rough lines of what the world considers pretty.
We can all make a pretty picture if we learn ourselves how to use a program or paint.
Ugly but attractive is something way harder to create.

No, i learned real art is,
strange and confusing.
Make you look at things in a different way.
Often the big crowds do not understand it,
in the end the artist is probably the only one that does understand.

Real art should be unique.

Real art should give you that feel ..that it flew out of someones hand without effort.

But so that no one else would be able to give you that feeling as that artist has given you.

This is same for all mediums of art.
From music to paintings~

But just like music,
lately i have noticed...
there is art and...There is commercial illustrations...

but now there is commercial art.

Art fallowing the rough lines of trends in the graphic design world.

Art that is made for profit.
This all started long ago, with so called affordable art.
Being a great, great concept at the time.

Which resulted into nowadays affordable art fairs.
Which was actually started, to give young new artist a chance.
But has become a way for everyone with basic skills to make a pretty picture to get a customer.

The affordable art fair is even where Mijn Schatje had made her way in.

There is nothing there can be done about it.
Just that we can be sure art theft like this will start happening more often as the market for commercial art is getting bigger.

Don't get me wrong,
it has always been big.
But Ikea big. Not sold as if it is really artistic art big, like it's been the passed few years.
Which bothers me,
it's like selling your mothers scrap books for a few hundred bucks because she is convinced it is artistic.

In the end,
this whole thing has just made me wonder~

What is real art to us these days?

And how much is it worth in this world,
where so called borrowing the idea's of other artists without asking is as normal as sneezing on someone in the bus without excusing?

In the end it all depends on what people would like to hang on their walls I'm afraid.

i really can't explain how i feel about this in writing,
but i agree with you on some things and not others. I don't think anything
is truly determinative in art as in a grouping sense. I really believe it changes from viewer to viewer and from artist to artist. I doodled for years and people would call me an artist and i would say that i was'nt,because i knew that the stuff i was doing was just for fun and was'nt trying to say anything with it just getting angst out on paper. And my stuff wasnt pretty it was dark and creepy and unsettling. But i didnt consider it finished real art. However many people loved it and bought it from me. So to them it was.I was only an artist through the viewers eyes. Today that is different, I think of myself as an artist now, not with all of my pieces of course(because i still do just fun things) but I have been doing pieces that i really put something into. So i say if the artist is truly trying to put something of themselves into a work pretty or not it is art. And if people like it or not it is still art, there is just too many kinds of art out there for it not to fall into some category, i think some times art gets labeled wrong or ends up on the wrong wall in the wrong form, but then that is my opinion and not the people that put it there :(
